Title:
AUTOMATED AMMUNITION HANDLING SYSTEM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0626789
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To enable ammunition rounds for a large caliber gun to be automatically transferred between a turret ready-to-fire magazine and hull unready-to-fire magazines of a military tank by controlling the posture of the ammunition rounds during conveyance.

CONSTITUTION: A carriage is vertically moved by the rotational motion of a carrier 30. When the carriage moves between a position facing a magazine port 24a and an upper position facing a magazine port 20a, the carrier 30 makes a detour around the breech 38a of the tank gun. As a result, the carrier 30 is held horizontal while the carriage moves between transfer positions. When the carriage starts moving upward from the transfer position, the carrier 30 starts counterclockwise turning round its shaft-mounting portion 58 to the carriage. This turning is continued as the carriage advances to swing the carrier 30 in such a manner that it is turned over at the breech 38a of the tank gun protruding into the turret. In this way, it is possible to transfer ammunition rounds by an automated system making good use of a narrow space.
