Abstract:
The device consists of a curved acoustic probe comprising a number of electro-acoustic transducers (2). The beam of acoustic energy is directed by the electronic scanning method, the scanning being obtained in this case by using only the electro-acoustic transducers (2) capable of flooding the target with sound waves. In this way, a large number of electro-acoustic transducers (2) can be used for each azimuth angle and this enables a high definition to be obtained. The invention can be used in the formation of images by acoustic waves such as, for example, ultrasonic waves. It finds a particular application in non-destructive monitoring which involves obtaining images inside liquids, under the sea for example. Application mainly to ultrasonic medical imaging.
