Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enhance transfer of heat to a catalyst layer and uniformize heat distribution, by making an exhaust passage and a heating space communicate with each other through a communicating port provided at an upper end part of the heating space, and providing an exhaust port of the exhaust passage below the communicating port. CONSTITUTION:A gas generated at a burner 2 heats a reactor 8 while flowing upward, sequentially flows through multi-stage communicating pipes 16, and finally turns back downward at a communicating port 17 of a heating passage 14. In this reformer, a heating gas turns back downward upon passing through the communicating port 17 provided at an upper part of a heating space 7. Therefore, the heating gas does not bypass laterally at intermediate parts of the heating space, so that the heating space 7 is sufficiently filled with the heating gas entirely up to the upper end part thereof. Accordingly, the heating gas can perform such heat transfer that a uniform heat distribution is provided for the entire body in the height direction of the reactor 8, resulting in a higher reaction efficiency.
