Title:
MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM AND ITS MANUFACTURE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6035330
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce a spacing loss and to improve the quality of running, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance by providing a ferromagnetic layer with an overcoat layer which has an organic material treated layer on a plasma polymerized layer.

CONSTITUTION: A magnetic recording medium has a magnetic layer formed on a base, the plasma polymerized layer which incorporates silicon on the magnetic layer, and the organic material treated layer formed by graft-polymerizing and/ or adsorbing physically organic material on the surface of the plasma polymerized layer. The magnetic layer is formed on the base and then the plasma polymerized layer is formed on the magnetic layer by polymerizing a compound containing silicon in an atmosphere of glow discharge; and varpor consisting principally of the organic material is brought into contact with this plasma polymerized layer for an air-phase treatment, forming the organic material treated layer. The overcoat layer consisting of the plasma polymerized layer and organic material treated layer is preferably 20W1,000 thick on the whole, and specially preferable 100W500. The thickness is not enough to give lubricity when <20 and causes an increase in spacing loss when ≥1,000.
