PURPOSE: To reduce the sticking of splash and to minimize the lowering of temp. of a molten steel by assembling a ladle cover in a VOD device relating to the production of an alloy steel, particularly stainless steel with a water- cooling wall and a refractory wall.
CONSTITUTION: For example, in the ladle cover 11, the side wall 6 having comparatively much sticking of the splash is made to be the water-cooling structure, and a roof 7 having large heat loss is constituted with the refractory. By this method, the loss from the molten steel is reduced and the sticking of the splash by which continuous operation may be troubled. Thus, the maintenance load in the VOD device can drastically be improved without exerting adverse influence on the metallurgical characteristic. Further, by forming the water-cooling strucdture at the circumferences of the charging holes of the alloy and the insert hole of the lance provided on a roof part, the difficulty of the charge of the alloy and the insertion of lance based on the sticking and the growth of the splash are eliminated.
