PURPOSE: To correct skew efficiently and reliably by releasing the paper carry stop condition due to a stopper simultaneously with complete correction of skew.

CONSTITUTION: The paper 35 to be carried will contact against one end 32a of a stopper 32 projecting onto the paper carry path 31 to bring into temporal stoppage condition. Here the paper 35 is energized by a slip roller 38 against one end 32 of stopper 32 to bring the opposite ends of paper 35 at the side 35a in the carrying direction to one end section 32a of the stopper 32 thus to correct skew. Upon completion of skew correction, the opposite ends at the side 35a of paper 35 are detected by a sensor 34 to function a solenoid 36a through a control circuit 36b thus to remove one end 32a of stopper 32 from the paper carry path 31 then to release the paper carry stop condition due to a stopper 32 and to carry the paper 35 fully corrected of skew to the following transfer process.
