NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (A is halogen, alkoxy or alkylthio; R1WR3 are H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or alkylthio).
EXAMPLE: N-[2-(3'-Methoxy)-thienylmethyl]-N-chloroaceto-2,6-dimethylanilide.
USE: A herbicide exhibiting strong effect especially to cockspurgrass (a gramineous weed) and effective also to cypraceous weeds and broad-leaved weeds, etc. It is absolutely harmless to the crops even at a high concentration, and safe to the health.
PREPARATION: The compound of formula I can be prepared by reacting the N- substituted aniline of formula II with the chloroacetyl halogenide of formula ClCH2COX (X is halogen) in a solvent such as benzene, tetrahydrofuran, etc. preferably in the presence of trialkylamine, pyridine, etc. at -20W+150°C for 1W40hr.
