Abstract:
Pyrocarbon-containing preform with a low weight, an increased elastic modulus and an excellent surface quality. It is obtained in the following manner: carbon fibres are coked at temperatures between 800 and 1200C; this coked green product is then infiltrated with pyrocarbon up to a density no greater than 70% of the theoretical density at a temperature of approximately 1100C and this product is finally sealed with a layer of pyrocarbon at a temperature comprised between 1300 and 1800C. The present invention also relates to the production of preforms containing such pyrocarbons and to their use as exoprostheses, endoprostheses or ortheses, and in particular as single-flap or multiflap cardiac valve prostheses or as cardiac valve components.
