Abstract:

PURPOSE: To shorten the idle time required for tool selection, by making the selection of a lot of tools and their drive and control attainable with two numerically controlled spindles, namely, servomotors alone.

CONSTITUTION: When a cutting tool 30 is in the midst of cutting and then a cutting tool 32 is selected, the cutting tool 30 is drawn back to a cutting edge reference position simultaneously with an end of machining. In succession, the cutting tool 32 is positioned in rapid feed and advances up to the specified depth of cut, thus the next machining takes place. Like cutting tools 29 and 31, there is provided with such a cutting tool as being titled to both vertical and horizontal slides, and in time of forward movement of the cutting tool, two servomotors (neither illustrated herein) are controlled so as to advance at the specified angle in cooperation with each other.
