PURPOSE: To make jam clearing operation automatically performable with only the loading or unloading operation of a cassette ever so smoothly, by judging a combination of each output signal out of a cassette loading or unloading detection device and a jam detection device at every specified time and thereby performing the jam clearing operation.

CONSTITUTION: When a cassette 1 is loaded onto a copying machine body 50, a lead switch 3 at the side of the body 50 is opened by a magnet 2 being secured tight to the tip end of the cassette 1. Under this condition, when copying paper is delivered out of the cassette 1 with a feeding device driven, since an output (a) of a jam detection device 5 is of an L level and a lead switch signal (b) is of an H level in time of normal feeding operation, a signal showing a state of normality is outputted from a sampling monitor circuit 6 whereby the effect is displayed on a display unit 8. On the other hand, when a state of paper jamming happens and therefore an output (b) of the detection device 5 turns to the said H level, the monitor circuit 6 emits a signal showing jam occurrence, and if the cassette 1 is pulled out, the said signal (a) turns to the L level whereby the circuit 6 emits such a signal as showing that paper is now resupplying.
