PURPOSE: To obtain an Mo material with improved workability and increased strength at high temp. by adding La(NO3)3 and very small amounts of Al, K and Si to Mo oxide powder and by causing thermal decomposition to disperse uniformly La2O3, Al, K and Si.
CONSTITUTION: To Mo oxide powder such as MoO3 or MoO2 powder are added 1W5% (expressed in terms of La2O3) La(NO3)3.6H2O basing on the amount of Mo, 20W200ppm Al, 20W300ppm K and 20W200ppm Si, and thermal decomposition is caused at ≥120°C to convert the La(NO3)3.6H2O into La2O3. The product is reduced in a hydrogen atmosphere, compacted, and sintered at ≥about 1,700°C in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. The sintered body is worked at ≥60% reduction of cross-sectional area to obtain an Mo material strengthened by uniformly dispersed La2O3, Al, K and Si and suitable for use as material for the cathode of an electron tube.
