PURPOSE: To obtain improved coal having a size capable of preventing evolving of dust durig storage and flying of the dust out of the coal yard, by coating coal from which oil has been extracted with the extracted oil followed by classification and then subjecting only a small partcle to submerged granulation.
CONSTITUTION: After crushed by a crusher 2, coal, e.g. low-quality coal 1 is dry distilled in a retort 3 to extract contained moisture and oil. The dry distilled coal is coated with, e.g. a portion of the extracted oil to form coated improved coal 5. Then the coal 5 is classified by a screen 6 into coated improved coal 7 on the screen 6 and coated improved coal unde the screen 6. The under-screen coal is granulated in water with remaining extracted oil by a submerged granulator to form granulated coal 9. The granulated coal 9 is supplied to, e.g., a coal yard and stored as improved coal 10 together with the coated improved coal 7 on the screen.
