PURPOSE: To attain the quick and assured confirmation for the function of a facsimile equipment itself by generating the binary coded picture element signals by a test picture element pattern in a self-test mode, and comparing/collating these signals with an original test picture element pattern after modulation/demodulation of those signals.

CONSTITUTION: In a self-test mode, a test pattern is read out of an ROM12 and stored to a random access memory 13. Then a test picture element pattern read out of the memory 13 is modulated at a modulation part 6 in the form of the test binary coded picture element signals. These signals are demodulated by a demodulator 7 via a REST relay contact 8. Then these demodulated signals are stored to the memory 13 and compared/collated with the original test picture element pattern data to check a difference produced between both data.
