PURPOSE: To improve the accuracy and yield of a rolling material by shifting work rolls and correcting the length of the contact part of the rolling material with the tapered parts of the work rolls.
CONSTITUTION: When a rolling material 10 is passed through, the material 10 contacts with a vertical touch roll and roll holders 9 are moved to the transverse ends of the material 10 by the signal thereof to press both transverse ends under required force. When the material 10 moves in the transverse direction so as to hunt, the roll holders operate and the sensors detect the operation thereof, thus outputting detection signals to control devices 17, 18. Command signals are outputted from the devices 17, 18 to servocontrol valves 13, 14 and the pressure oil from a hydraulic pump 15 is fed via the valves 13, 14 to fluid pressure cylinders 11, 12. Work rolls 1, 2 are shifted in the axial line direction according to the rate of hunting so that the length L of the contact part at the transverse ends of the material 10 with the tapered parts of the rolls 1, 2 is maintained always at a prescribed size.
