Title:
THIN FILM MAGNETIC HEAD AND ITS MANUFACTURE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5911527
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a thin film magnetic head provided with a floating slider superior in durability in the life test of repeating cycles of CSS, i.e. start and stop of the head in contact with the surface of a magnetic disk, by forming a floating face at least locally different from a substrate in the compsn. of material.

CONSTITUTION: A floating slider 1 made of Al2O3-TiC is mechanically worked, and then, a floating face 2 except a part of it adjacent to a thin film element- formed face 4, e.g., in 10W100μm width is removed down to 2W100μm depth as shown by the broken line in the figure by the mechanical work, sputter etching, or ion milling, or the like. Then, all the surface of the floating slider 1 is coated by plasma jet flame to form an Al2O3-TiO2 layer, and polished down to the similar level to the initial surface before the removal work. As a result, most of the part of the floating slider surface acting CSS movement can be converted into the Al2O3-TiO2 and the CSS durability cycle number can be enhanced.
