PURPOSE: To improve the strength of brass without deteriorating the workability such as rollability or drawability by simultaneously adding small amounts of Ti and Sn to brass.
CONSTITUTION: High tensile brass consisting of 0.05W1.0% Ti, 0.05W1.5% Sn, 55W80% Cu and the balance Zn is an economical Cu alloy having fvaorable mechanical properties, especially workability, high strength and high elasticity and substitutable for phosphor bronze for a spring in a degree. By simultaneously adding Ti and Sn to brass, the tensile strength is increased while reducing the amount of added Ti, and high elasticity is obtd. As the amount of added Ti is increased, oxidation proceeds violently during melting to increases the oxide content of the molten metal, the workability and electric conductivity are reduced, and the cost is increased. Accordingly, the Ti and Sn contents are restricted to ≤1.0% Ti and ≤1.5% Sn, and since <0.05% Ti and <0.05% S are not well effective in increasing the strength, ≥0.05% Ti and ≥0.05% Sn are required.
