PURPOSE: To enable mass production of anodes with a low recasting rate by detecting optically the position of the lugs of a lugged metallic strip for anodes formed by continuous casting and shearing the strip to a prescribed shape with one end of the lug as a start point.
CONSTITUTION: A contact type using a limit switch, touch sensor or the like and a contactless type using visible light, IR light, magnetic line of force, ultrasonic wave, etc. are available for detecting the position of the lug formed to a metallic strip 1 and above all the type using visible light is preferable as said type keeps the metallic strip free from flawing and is fast in response. More specifically, the light beam 9 from a light projector 3 is received by a photodetector 4 and when the position of the lug is preliminarily detected, a command is emitted via a control circuit 7 to a shearing cutter 5. There are a mechanical method such as shearing, pressing or the like and a photothermal method using a plasma arc, laser beam, electron beam, etc. The cutting by shearing is superior in terms of cutting exactly the anode which is copper.
