PURPOSE: To prepare guanosine efficiently, by cultivating a bacterium having adenine demanding properties, capable of producing guanosine in the presence of a controlled amount of an adenine-containing substance.
CONSTITUTION: A bacterium such as Bacillus pumilus No 148-S-16 (FERM BP-6), belonging to the genus Bacillus, Brevibacterium, etc., having adenine demanding properties, capable of producing guanosine, is inoculated into a medium having ≤ about 50wt% required amount of an adenine-containing substance such as adenine, adenosine, etc. and cultivated. When the adenine-containing substance added to the first starting medium is approximately consumed, the rest of the required amount is added to it intermittently or continuously to carry out cultivation.
