Abstract:
A thin-walled ceramic casting mould is disclosed for casting directionally solidified articles in which rapid cooling of the cast material is required. Using the lost wax process, the layered mould construction requires to be relatively thick to provide adequate strength.
The drawings shows a mould (24) made according to the application and including an integral core (12). The mould (24) is transfer moulded around a disposable pattern material and has wall thickness of the order of 0.5 mm to 2.0 mm. The mould and core may be made in the same, or different, ceramic materials chosen for their strength or thermal conductivity.
