PURPOSE: To obtain an inexpensive capstan with high performance by heating a rod shaft in the range of temperature at which the surface gloss is unchanged, forming an oxidized film, inserting and fixing the lower part of the shaft to a flywheel to form a rotary shaft and forming the upper part as the capstan.
CONSTITUTION: The shaft 1 of 13-Cr stainless steel formed into a rod is heated for about 15 minutes at about 350°C. The heating for about 15 minutes at nearly 350°C does not cause so-called tempering, the degree of surface hardness is negligible and the oxidized film produced by it is rustless and stable in normal air. Further, in applying said heating for an optimum time, no blooming is recognized visually in the coloring due to the oxidized film and the surface condition is excellent, then the effect on a slide bearing is neglected. The lower part of the shaft 1 is fixed to the center of the flywheel 3 and the other part penetrates through a bearing 4 as a rotary shaft 4 and the part projected above a chassis 5 through said bearing 4 is used as a capstan 2.
