Abstract:
PURPOSE:To reduce the building cost of a hydraulic power plant and to perform the simplification of an output operating control by converting the power difference between a water wheel output and the input of a generator into Joule heat generated at an inductor of an eddy current brake unit. CONSTITUTION:Water stream 12 is flowed from a hydraulic tube 2 through a casing 3 immediately to a water wheel 1. Even if the input of the generator varies due to the variation in an electric output of a generator 9, the quantity of water does not alter, and power difference between the output of the water wheel and the input of the generator occurs. To absorb it, an eddy current brake 18 is formed of a flywheel 8 and a core 21, and the exciting current to a coil 21 supplied from another DC power source is controlled in response to the speed rise signal of the shaft 6 of the generator and water wheel due to the excess power caused by the difference between the output of the water wheel and the input of the generator.
