Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a semi-metallic friction material consisting of a metal fiber, a binder such as phenolic resin, a filler and a specified auxiliary material and exhibiting excellent frictional properties at high temperatures.

CONSTITUTION: The friction material is prepared by adding at least one auxiliary material selected from among ZnCO3, CdCO3, K2CO3, copper carbonate hydroxide, lead carbonate hydroxide, Na2CO3, PbCO3, BaCO3, MgCO3, magnesium calcium carbonate and Li2CO3, to a mixture of a steel fiber or a similar metal fiber, a binder such as phenolic resin and a filler such as graphite, iron powder, BaSO4 or Ca(OH)2, in an amount of 5W150pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. binder.

EFFECT: The friction material shows excellent frictional properties at a high temperature of above 300°C and controls ignition even when braking temperature exceeds 600°C.

USE: Brake for automobile, etc.
