PURPOSE: To make it possible to control the picture recording in an external device by transmitting a recording material size together with read original picture information to the external device through a transmitting and receiving means.
CONSTITUTION: The original picture information read by a reader part 500 is stored temporarily in a buffer memory 20 by the process control due to a CPU10 of a picture processing control part 100 and is subjected to the compression processing or the like in a long-distance communication device formed with a digital data exchange interface 60 or the like and is transmitted to the external device. The recording material size designated through an operation part 550 of the reader part 500 is transmitted to the external device also through the operation interface 58 of the control part 100, the CPU10, and the interface 60. Information is transmitted to the external device similarly by a short-distance communication device formed with an optical fiber interface 70. Thus, the picture recording in the external device can be controlled in the picture processing device where the picture processing and short-distance and long-distance communication of picture information are performed easily and quickly.
