PURPOSE: To improve the resolution in reading an original by specifying the width of charge coupled elements which are arrayed alternately in parallel within the effective visual field of a light convergent optical fiber.

CONSTITUTION: Information on a body to be read is guided to the charge coupled elements 171W174 through the light convergent optical fiber 14 and converted photoelectrically. Those elements 171W174 are arrayed alternately in parallel, and the width Δl of the elements 171W174 is specified within the effective visual field of the fiber 145. Consequently, the original is read with high resolution.
