Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent breakdown of rack guide by forming a projection protruding in axial direction at the inner end section of plug to be screwed into a guide hole of rack housing to receive the rack bar by said projection when the rack guide has backed by allowable amount.

CONSTITUTION: Upon rotation of pinion 3 through operation of steering wheel, a rack bar will reciprocate in the left and right. If transmission torque between pinion 3 and rack tooth 6 is high, for example, rack bar 5 is pushed and separated from pinion 3 through gearing reaction based on pressure angle of pinion 3 and rack tooth. Consequently a rack guide 12 will back against a spring 18 and upon exceeding over allowable level (gap) L, the back face 5a of rack bar 5 will contact with the end face of projection 17 of plug 16. Consequently separating force functioning on the rack bar 5 is received by the projection 17 to prevent deformation and breakdown of rack guide 12.
