NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R is H or 1W10C alkyl).

EXAMPLE: 4[trans-4'-(trans-4"-Propylcyclohexyl)cyclohexyl]phenyl 3-α,α,α-trifluromethylbenzoate.

USE: Useful as one component in liquid crystal compositions, capable of increasing the clear point of the liquid crystal compositions without increasing the viscosity thereof with a slight change in the threshold voltage and saturation voltage, and stable to moisture, heat, light, etc.

PROCESS: As shown in the reaction formulas, 4-bromoanisole is reacted with metallic magnesium to give a compound, which is then reacted with a compound of formula II, dehydrated, reduced and then demethylated with HBr. The resultant reaction product compound of formula III is then reacted with a compound of formula IV in the presene of pyridine to afford the aimed compound of formula I .
