PURPOSE: To perform a rolling with high dimensional accuracy in rolling a material with a common-drive block mill consisting of multi-stands, by measuring the top and bottom dimensions, etc. of the base material and a rolled product and controlling the rolling so as to eliminate the deviations between the measured values and target values.
CONSTITUTION: In rolling a base material with a common-drive block mill consisting of multi-stands, the temperatures, top and bottom dimensions, and left- and right-side dimensions are measured at the front stage of the mill. Further, at the rear stage of the mill, the top and bottom, and left- and right-side dimensions of a rolled product are measured. And, with respect to the front part of the material, the measured results of top and bottom dimensions are compared with those of target values to perform a feedback control so as to make the deviation between them to zero. Further, with respect to the rolling to the tail end of the rolling material, the measured results of the material front part measured at the front stage of the mill are used as the target values to perform a feed forward control basing on the deviation from said target values. Furthermore, the dimensional change caused by the cumulative deviations in the feed forward control is eliminated by performing the feedback control.
