PURPOSE: To keep a cleaning roll always in contact with the surface of the drum through a friction elastic body and to prevent contamination of the inside of the machine and to prevent damage of the drum and wear of brush, by making the shaft part of a cleaning roll in a groove slidable toward a photosensitive drum.

CONSTITUTION: Even when a photosensitive body drum causes vibration or eccentricity of rotation, the shaft member 12 of a cleaning roll 7 is slid in the groove 17 in the direction of the drum 1 by a pressing member 14. Friction elastic bodies 16 on both ends 13 are elastically deformed until they become equal to the outer diameter of both ends, and both ends of the roll is kept in press-contact with the drum 1. The amount of lap between the drum 1 and brushes 18 has a fixed value corresponding to difference between the outer diameter of the brushes 18 and the outer diameter of both ends 13 of the roll 7. As the both ends 13 are always in contact with the surface of the drum 1 through the friction elastic body 16, the both ends 13 are rotated by friction to act as driven wheels and rotate the roll 7, i.e. the brushes 18.
