PURPOSE: To obtain purified acrylamide in high purity useful for preparing polyacrylamide, by crystallizing a solution of acrylamide in acrylonitrile obtained by the catalytic hydration in the presence of a large excess of acrylonitrile.

CONSTITUTION: Acrylamide is crystallized from a solution of acrylamide in acrylonitrile obtained by the catalytic hydration in the presence of a large excess of acrylonitrile using preferably ≤1/2 stoichiometric amount based on acrylonitrile of water and titanium-containing compound oxide catalyst. If necessary, one or all of the treatment procedures consisting of preferably rinsing with acrylonitrile, evaporation of the mother liquid or rinsed solution attached to the crystal, and dissolution of acrylamide into water are carried out to prepare acrylamide.
