PURPOSE: To control the quantity of heat generated in a latch-type solenoid to or below a predetermined value and eliminate effects of temperature rise, by providing a printing-controlling means which controls printing so that when the number of printed characters per one line is less than a predetermined value, queueing time is intermediately provided before starting printing in the next line.
CONSTITUTION: When the number of printed characters Nd is less than the predetermined value, for example, 6, the printing-controlling means 22 controls printing so as to intermediately provide queueing time TW after completion of printing time Tp, as indicated by a hatching in diagram (b). When the number of printed characters is 6 or more, the next operation is started, without providing the queueing time TW. Then, a driving signal is fed to a return coil of a solenoid 5 through a solenoid-driving circuit 4, as shown in diagram (c), thereby turning up a printing head 3. Subsequently, line feeding is conducted as shown in diagram (d), thereafter a driving motor for a carriage with the head 3 mounted thereon is driven for a period of time TC as shown in diagram (e), thereby returning the head 3 to a home position. Thereafter, operations similar to the above are repeated.
