PURPOSE: A safe composition comprising an active ingredient obtained by blending a specific N-substituted-chloroacetanilide including a novel compound with another compound, showing more improved synergistic effect than use as an individual agent with a small amount of the composition used, having no phytotoxicity to crops.
CONSTITUTION: A composition comprising a compound shown by the formula I (A, R1WR3 are H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, or alkylthio), mostly novel compound, a herbicide having a wide herbicidal spectrum on annual weeds such as Echinochloa crus-galli Beauv. var. praticola Ohwi., etc. occurring in paddy fields, and perennial weeds such as bulrush, etc., showing no phytotoxicity to paddy rice plants, capable destroying weeds effectively, and a well-known α-(β-naphthoxy)propionic acid derivative shown by the formula II (R is -OCH3, formula III, formula IV, or formula V) showing herbicidal effect caused by hormone action, effective against broad-leaved weeds including perennial weeds, as active ingredients. Showing wide herbicidal spectrum in a wide use range (preferably an amount of the latter is 0.2W20pts.wt. based on 1pt.wt. of the former).
