PURPOSE: To prevent noise in an electromagnetic disc brake from leaking toward the outside by fixing an outer disc and one side of the electromagnet to the frame of a rotating machine to be braked, and fitting a sound absorbing material in the passing through hole of an electromagnet not fixed to the above rotary machine.
CONSTITUTION: An outer disc 1 having a through hole at its center, an inner disc 2, an armature 3 and an electromagnet 4 are provided in a line at the axial end of the input shaft 61 of a speed reducer 59 to form an electromagnetic disc. brake 60. In addition to that, a sound absorbing member 14 excellent in sound absorbing action is fitted in the through hole of the core 4A of the electromagnet 4. When electric current is applied to the electromagnet 4, the armature 3 is drawn to make the inner disc 2 rotate freely for taking off the brake of a hoist 53. When the applying of the current is stopped, a braking spring presses the armature 3 toward the outer disc 1 to restrict the rotation of the inner disc 2 for actuating the above brake. Noise generated inside the electromagnetic disc 60 is absorbed by the sound absorbing member 14 for reduction in the noise leaking toward the outside.
