PURPOSE: To provide a liq. crystal compsn. capable of being driven in a time- sharing manner, having enough voltage margin in practice, and capable of giving a display excellent in contrast, by incorporating liq. crystals of NCY, dioxane, PCH ester, and diester types.

CONSTITUTION: 40W60wt% NCY liq. crystal compd. of formula I (wherein R1 is 3W6C straight-chain alkyl; R2 is 1W6C straight-chain alkyl), 27W45wt% dioxane liq. crystal compd. of formula II (wherein R3 is 2W5C straight-chain alkyl), 5W 15wt% PCH ester liq. crystal compd. of formula III (wherein R4 is 3C straight- chain alkyl alkyl; R5 is 2W5C straight-chain alkyl), and 5W15wt% diester liq. crystal compd. of formula IV (wherein R6, R7 are 4C straight-chain alkyl) are mixed to yield the intended liq. crystal compsn. Said liq. crystal compsn. has a clearing point of about 60°C, wide temp. range of operation assured, small driving voltage, and wide margin.
