Abstract:
PURPOSE:To simplify the installation of an engine on a hull, by arranging an input shaft above clutch mechanisms to make the distance between the output shaft of the engine and the bottom of the hull larger. CONSTITUTION:The output gears 12 and output pinions 11 of clutch mechanisms F, R are disposed in the rear and front sections of a casing 10, respectively, corresponding to the layout of such an arrangement that an input gear 3 is disposed in the rear part of an input shaft 2, and an output gear 6 is disposed in the front part of an output shaft 5. Upon running of an engine the input shaft 2 and the input gear 3 rotate, and therefore, the input gears 12 of the clutch mechanisms F, R, which mesh with the gear 3 also rotate. Under this condition, when clutches 20 in the advance clutch mechanisms F are engaged, engine torque is transmitted to the output gear 6 through the input gears 12 in the advance clutch mechanisms F, the clutches 20 and the output pinions 11. When the astern clutch mechanisms R are engaged, the clutches 20 in the advance clutch mechanisms F are disengaged, and astern torque is transmitted to the output shaft 5 through the mechanisms R.
