CONSTITUTION: Magnetic recording patterns 2 are recorded on the magnetic tape 1 breadthwise regularly at intervals l0, and the azimuth direction α in recording coincides with the direction α of the tracking A of the rotary head of a magnetic recording and reproducing device. An arrow B indicates the run direction of the magnetic tape 1. This standard tape is used for a magnetic recording and reproducing device to be adjusted, and then the breadthwise deformation extent of the standard tape caused by the run system of the magnetic recording and reproducing device is grasped quantitatively, so this is used as an index to adjust the tape guide of the tape run system and adjust the tape run state of the magnetic recording and reproducing device so that the tape deformation extent is minimum. Consequently, the head output performance is improved and the picture quality is improved.
