PURPOSE: To produce a highly crystalline α-olefin polymer having a good particle shape in high yields, by using a specified organoaluminum catalyst suitable for use in a variety of α-olefin polymerization processes such as vapor-phase polymerization and slurry polymerization.
CONSTITUTION: An organoaluminum compound (e.g., diethylaluminum monochloride) is reacted with an electron donor (e.g., diisoamyl ether) and the reaction product is reacted with titanium tetrachloride. The obtained solid product is treated with an α-olefin to effect a polymerization treatment. The solid product coated with the olefin polymer is fruther reacted with an electron donor and an electron acceptor (e.g., titanium tetrachloride). An α-olefin is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst prepared by combining the solid product obtained above with an organoaluminum compound. The polymer thus produced has a decreased content of amorphous polymer and has a good polymer particle shape.
