PURPOSE: To attain recording/reproducing of a digital video signal at plural channels without increasing the size of a rotary drum by connecting magnetic heads at a position opposite to each other on the rotary drum in series and using a rotary transformer in common to the two magnetic heads in pairs.

CONSTITUTION: The magnetic heads 1,5, 2,6, 3,7, and 4,8 respectively at a position apart by 180° on the head drum are connected respectively in series and a rotary transformer (20AW20D) is provided to each pair. In the figure, 21AW21D are switches connected to a winding at the stationary side of the rotary transformers 20AW20D and the switches are changed over to amplifiers 22AW22D at the recording and to amplifiers 23AW23D at the reproduction respectively, and 30 is an input terminal of an analog video signal to be recorded. The video signal is converted into a PCM signal at an A/D converter 31, and after a synchronizing signal and an error correcting signal or the like are added at signal processing circuits 32, 32', the result is divided into two and applied to the recording amplifiers 22A, 22B and the 22C, 22D.
