Abstract:
Chemically uniform, uncrosslinked copolymers of vinylpyrrolidone with alkyl and/or cycloalkyl methacrylates with a random structure and a glass transition temperature of greater than 70 DEG C which are hydrophilic, but do not swell or soften in aqueous media to form hydrogels. The materials according to the invention are suitable for the production of mouldings which are in direct contact with living tissue, for example hard to semi-hard lenses in ophthalmology, in particular iris lenses, contact lenses and scleral lenses.
