NEW MATERIAL:A compound (salt) of formula I {R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is lower alkyl which may be substituted by a -COR21 group (R21 is OH or secondary amino); R3 is acetoxymethyl, pyridinium methyl or CH2SR31 (R31 is 5-W 6-membered heterocyclic ring containing 1W4 hetero-atoms); R4 is COO-, COOH or COOM [M is alkali (earth) metal]}.
EXAMPLE: Sodium 7β-[2-( 1-piperazinylcarbonylmethoxyimino )-2-( 2-amino-1-meth yl-1H-imidazol-4-yl )acetamido]-3-( 1-methyl-1H-tetrazol-5-yl )thiomethyl-3-cephem- 4-carboxylate (syn isomer).
USE: An antimicrobial agent effective particularly against Gram-negative bacteria.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II (R6 is H, trityl, etc.; R7 is protected COOH, etc.) is reacted with a compound of formula III (R8 is H, benzhydril, etc.) to give a compound of formula IV. The protecting groups is then removed from the resultant compound of formula IV to afford the aimed compound of formula I .
