PURPOSE: To provide a glow-plug for diesel engine which is designed in a simplified and convenient configuration and can produce an optimum combustion state inside a cylinder without the need of any modification and additional processings, by providing to a glow-plug a detector adapted to sense and detect a combustion flame taking place inside the cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: A light transmitting ceramic material 9 having a heat resistance such as an alumina (Al2O3) is provided to wrap the exterior of heating means 8. The heating means 8 is heated up by an electric current flowing through a conducting wire 11 thereto and subsequently the light transmitting ceramic material 9 has its top end heated with the resultant ignition of fuel being injected. The light of flame enters to reach a light receiving element 12 through the top end of light transmitting ceramic material 9. An electric control device 13 is connected with a fuel injection pump 14 and adapted to output a signal instructive of fuel injection timing in a timed relation with a signal outputted by the light receiving element 12, and whereby causing a fuel injection nozzle 15 to inject a fuel into a cylinder. A glow-plug can be easily attached to a cylinder head without the need of modifying and applying additional processings to the cylinder head configuration.
