Title:
NOVEL MICROORGANISM BELONGING TO GENUS STREPTOCOCCUS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5927833
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: Novel microorganisms, belonging to the genus Streptococcus, having the N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase activity in the culture supernatant liquid thereof, and useful as a nontoxic antiarteriosclerotic agent.

CONSTITUTION: Novel Streptococcus feacium, Streptococcus feacalis, Streptococcus avium, Streptococcus durans, Streptococcus salivarius, Streptococcus mitis and Streptococcus equinus having the N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase activity in the culture supernatant liquid thereof. The living and dead microbial cells of the microorganism are capable of effectively reducing the cholesterol value and glyceride value in the blood and substantially nontoxic by the oral administration and have remarkably high adsorbability on epithelia of the human intestinal tracts, e.g. the ileum or rectum. In case the living microbial cells are particularly used, the above-mentioned pharmacological effects are more effectively and continuously exhibited. The living microbial cells are prepared by aerobically cultivating various strains in a Rogosa liquid culture medium at 37°C by the stationary culture method.
