Title:
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CASTING BARLIKE METAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5956964
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To avert a misrun and air inclusion during casting and to obtain a product having a smooth surface in the stage of casting a barlike metal of an alloy having low rollability and low machinability by sucking a molten metal upward into a pipe-shaped casting mold from the bottom end thereof and cooling the upper part thereof.

CONSTITUTION: A molten alloy 18 is prepared in casting of a welding rod of, for example, a stellite alloy, and a vacuum pump 15 is operated to evacuate the inside of a quartz tube 1 of a casting mold having a suction port 2 for the molten metal closed with a cap 3 made of a low m.p. metal. Such pipe 1 is dipped into the molten metal 18 from the surface of the molten metal 18 up to the narrowed part 4 of the pipe. Then the cap 3 is burned off instantaneously and the metal 18 ascends up to the upper part of the pipe 1. The molten metal 18 arriving at a chiller 11 is quickly cooled by the chiller 11 and is solidified so that it stops rising-up. The pipe 1 is pulled from the metal 18 upon lapse of a prescribed time. Since the metal 18 is solidified in the part 4, the metal 18 in the pipe 1 does not flow out and the solidified welding rod is removed from the pipe 1.
