PURPOSE: To increase the strength of a cylinder liner without deteriorating the service characteristics of the inside of the liner by combining an inner layer having a specified composition and showing superior wear resistance and seizing resistance with an outer layer of malleable cast iron having a specified composition and showing superior toughness and hardness so as to form the cylinder liner as a composite one.
CONSTITUTION: An outer layer (a) of malleable cast iron consisting of, by weight, 2.0W2.8% C, 0.7W2.5% Si, 0.3W1.2% Mn, ≤0.2% P, ≤0.2% S, ≤3.0% Ni, 0.1W1.0% Cr, ≤0.7% Mo and the balance Fe is formed, and an inner layer (b) consisting of, by weight, 2.5W4.0% C, 0.8W2.5% Si, 0.3W1.5% Mn, 0.05W1.5% P, ≤0.3% S, ≤2.5% Ni, ≤1.5% Cr, ≤0.8% Mo, ≤0.5 Sn, ≤4.0% Cu, ≤1.0% one or more among B, Ti, V, Nb and Zr, ≤0.2% one or more among Al, Ca, Ba, Sr and a rare earth element, and the balance Fe is formed. The layers (a), (b) are then united to one body by melt bonding to obtain a composite cylinder liner.
