PURPOSE: To improve the working accuracy by transferring a rest apparatus according to the part to be worked among plural worked parts of a workpiece and supporting said workpiece by the part closest to the part to be worked.
CONSTITUTION: A rest apparatus R is installed onto the upper part of a right fast head stock 3. The rest body 35, rod 31, and a pilot bar 32 can be transferred when a cylinder apparatus 30 operates. In this case, engagement pins 33 and 34 are smoothly engaged into the holes 33A and 34A on the front edge surfaces of a slidable base 4 and a left fast head stock 2. The engagement between the engagement pins 33 and 34 and the engagement holes 33A and 34A prevents the deflection accompanied with the overhang of the both of the rest apparatus R and the slidable base 4, and permits the work with high accuracy.
