PURPOSE: To prevent any separation of the active material by packing lead powder between a core metal and a tube after the core metal is attached to the tube and the upper end of the tube is stuck to the main bone of the current collector and by squashing the lower end of the tube before the squashed end is coated with a resin.
CONSTITUTION: A clad-type positive plate is made by attaching a tube 3 to the core metal 1 of a current collector having an upper main bone and the core metal 1 before the upper end of the tube 3 is stuck to the main bone and then packing a lead powder 2 into the space formed between the core metal 1 and the tube 3. During the above process, the lower end of the tube 3 is held with a metallic mold having a tube-squashing pin and then the pin is extruded to squash the lower end of the tube 3. At the same time, a resin 4 is poured into the metallic mold to coat the squashed end with the resin in order to prevent any separation of the active material. Thus, the lower end of the tube 3 is squashed and coated with the resin 4 without applying any excessive force to the tube 3. Therefore, it is possible to increase the reliability of the positive plate and to easily automate the process of making the positive plate.
