PURPOSE: To expand a dynamic range by calculating a forcasting value of a signal exceeding a saturated point by an unsaturated signal in color processing using a color filter having high transmittivity.
CONSTITUTION: A solid-state image pickup element 5 has a color filter, and a distributor 7 outputs a signal to specific output ports b,c,d,e respectively depending on each color in synchronizing with horizontal and vertical scanning. The output of a low pass filter 8 is connected to a level detector 11 and whether or not signals w,y,cy,g reach their saturating point is fed to an arithmetic unit 20. The content of arithmetic operation is changed according to the information of the level detector 11 in the arithmetic unit 10 and the saturating point of each primary signal is elevated up to the saturating point of the signal (g) and processed.
