PURPOSE: To extremely reduce an amount of water for cleaning an ion exchange resin and to enormously improve productivity in purifying an amino acid by the use of an ion exchange resin by continuously bringing the resin into contact with an aqueous solution of an amino acid in counter flow at a multiple stage and successively contacting an eluent with an adsorbed resin in counter flow at a multiple stage.
CONSTITUTION: In purifying an amino acid by (i) bringing an amino acid solution containing impurities industrially produced by fermentation method, synthesis method, extraction method, etc., into contact with an ion exchange resin to selectively adsorb the amino acid on the resin, then (ii) eluting the adsorbed amino acid and recovering, the resin in the adsorption process (i) is continuously brought into contact with an aqueous solution of the amino acid in counter flow at a multiple stage and an eluent in the elution process (ii) is contacted with the adsorbed resin in counter flow at a multiple stage so that an amount of water for cleaning suspension attached and piled on the resin is extremely reduced, thereby an amount of drain is enormously decreased and productivity of the resin is greatly improved.
