PURPOSE: To obtain a thermal transfer recording medium capable of printing with low energy and transferring high-density coloring matter images multiple times with little reduction in density, by a method wherein an intermediate layer comprising a cross-linking agent and a heat-fusible coloring material layer comprising a reactive high molecular weight substance are sequentially provided on a base by coating.
CONSTITUTION: The intermediate layer comprises a cross-linking agent, and the coloring material layer comprises a reactive high molecular weight substance. The high molecular weight substance has reactive groups, e.g., epoxy groups, aziridyl groups or isocyanate groups at side chains of a high molecular weight compound. The cross-linking agent may be a compound having a plurality of functional groups, e.g., an amine, a phenol or a carboxylic acid. The cross-linking agent reacts with the reactive high molecular weight substance to firmly hold the coloring material layer on the base, so that it is possible to perform printing plural times.
