PURPOSE: To obtain an image high in resolving power by eliminating the exfoliation transfer of a transfer layer to a layer to be heat-transferred, by using a thermal transfer sheet having a heat transfer layr containing a heat-transferrable disperse dye and a sheet to be heat-transferred having a specific structure.
CONSTITUTION: A sheet 1 to be heat-transferred is constituted of a base material 2 and a receiving layer 3 while the latter is constituted of a first region 4 and a second region 5. The first region 4 is formed of a resin having a glass transition temp. of -100W20°C, pref., -50W10°C and having a polar group such as an ester linkage, an urethane linkage, an amido linkage, an urea linkage, a C-Cn linkage or a C-Cl linkage and the second region 5 is formed of a resin having a glass transition temp. of 40°C or more, pref., 50W150°C. The first region 4 occupies 15W95% and the length in the longitudinal direction of the island part thereof is 0.5W200μm and sufficiently receives the dye in the heat transfer layer 8 of a heat transfer sheet while the second region 5 prevents diffusion to the other parts.
