Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide an excellent seal effect in a seal device for a piston or the like by attaching an endless elastic seal ring having the diameter smaller than that of a seal attaching portion so that a portion of the seal ring elastically contacts the seal surface of cylinder bore. CONSTITUTION:The outer periphery 14 of an elastic seal ring R forms a seal lip l projecting from the outer peripheral surface of a piston 3 to elastically contact the inside wall of a cylinder bore 2 so that fluid leakage from a high pressure chamber (a) to a low pressure one b is blocked, and an annular deep escape groove 16 formed on one side of a piston ring groove 4 at the back of the ring R allows for the free distortion of the lip l to improve the following property to the inside wall. Area B in the central portion forms an embracing portion h for embracing a groove 4a with an embracing force caused by its own elastic stability. The embracing force increases toward the inner peripheral side to be positively held. Also, a deeply recessed groove 17 is formed on the other side of the groove 4 and engages the end edge of the seal ring R to stop the axial play of the ring R. Thus, a seal device having high sealing property is provided without any machining.
